Reader's Corner
Like to curl up with a good book? Many of us do, so we've decided to begin a "lending library" in the barrister bookcase in the Sunday School room. We will use a simple "sign-out card" system for checking out the books. If you have a few interesting, good CLEAN novels you'd like to lend or donate, please bring them to church and leave them (with a note) on the serving table next to the bookcase. In a few weeks, we will have the cards ready and inserted in the books so that everyone can begin borrowing this fall. We're looking primarily for fiction, but if you have an inspirational or educational book that needs to be shared, please feel free to include those. If you are just lending (not donating), be sure your name is inside the front cover of your books. Look for an announcement in the bulletin and/or email to let you know when you may begin browsing and checking out books. By the end of September, it will be just the right weather for a good book out under the colors of an autumn tree! If you have questions, please contact Cathie Fischer.
Food Gathering
Since there is an extreme need of food for the people in our community who are having a hard time making ends meet because of job loss or other reasons beyond their control, we are asking the congregation to bring food with them on any Sunday, and we will see that the food gets delivered to where it is needed the most. Once a month, we will have the children bring the food forward during the Time for Young Disciples, and we will have a prayer that the food will bless someone in need. Please give generously and often!
Flower Committee
Kelly G. has volunteered to chair the Flower Committee. You can still sign-up, have flowers delivered or bring your own flowers for any Sunday you'd like (just as you've done in the past), but we now have added bonuses. Kelly will be happy to make an arrangement for you, if you provide the funds (either directly to her or thru a church pass-thru account. The only requirements of her arranging is that we can't order a specific color or variety of flowers (since she works with the freshest flowers that are currently available) and we need to return the vase/pot and dried floral foam to her for re-use. If you don't want to provide flowers for a specifi Sunday, but just enjoy seeing them, you may also donate to the pass-thru account, and it will be used as necessary to keep a steady supply of pulpit beauty.
Sign-up Sheets/ Bulletin Board
We are always looking for volunteers to fill in our sign-up sheets for various needs: donating sanctuary flowers, leading worship, or providing fellowship snacks for coffee hour. We also need helpers for nursery/childcare and for leading the "time for young disciples" during worship. Please check the bulletin board in the Sunday School to find out available dates
