Mary's Manger
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them.” —Matthew 19:14
Mary’s Manger is a ministry of Louisa Presbyterian Church that lends infant and child equipment
to low-income and foster families in the Louisa area.
to low-income and foster families in the Louisa area.
The Manger ministry began after several mothers from Giving Words in Louisa gathered items that their children had outgrown with a desire to pass these items on to other single mothers. The Giving Words moms sought to share these items, with no financial gain, explaining that they had received much of it as gifts and simply wanted to re-gift it to other single moms.
At the same time, Louisa Presbyterian Church called a new pastor with a heart for serving foster parents who often find themselves receiving a child in the middle of the night with none of the necessities. After a casual conversation between Pastor Sandi of LPC and co-founder Eddie Brown of Giving Words intersected these two desires, the equipment was donated to LPC and Mary’s Manger was born. In the spirit of those first moms, Mary’s Manger continues to acquire its children’s equipment through the donations of parents who find themselves with items that are still in good shape but that their children have outgrown. There is no tax donation receipt. Donations are a gift.
Single parents and foster parents are invited to have their social workers or clergy contact Pastor Sandi at the email address below to arrange to borrow from what is currently in the Manger: car seats, strollers, high chairs, booster seats, cribs, etc. After the child has outgrown what has been borrowed, parents then return the item so that another child can use it and another family can be freed from the financial burden of purchasing it.
Any parents with good, usable equipment that their children have outgrown are encouraged to donate that equipment to the Manger. Mary depended upon the kindness and generosity of strangers on the night that Jesus was born. So do the Marys in our community today. If you or someone you know has infant and children’s equipment that is in good, usable condition and that can ease the burden of another child’s family, we invite you to consider donating these items to Mary’s Manger.
Please contact Pastor Sandi at [email protected] to discuss and arrange your donation.
